Work Group Description

This work group will focus specifically on the mission of the School District and will address matters and issues leading to the improvement of student learning, including curriculum, instruction, assessment, and intervention, as well as topics related to educator effectiveness. Work will also include the ongoing review and revision of policies related to the range of subject matter encompassed within the Work Group's domain.

Work Group Description

This Work Group will focus on financial management, including budget planning; building and facilities maintenance, operations, and planning; land/property transactions; and District administrative operations, including human resource systems issues such as the retention and hiring of staff and staff equity issues. Work will also include the ongoing review and revision of policies related to the range of subject matter encompassd within the Work Group's domain.

Education Resource Officer (ERO) Ad Hoc Committee

The ERO Ad Hoc Committee membership also includes 10 school district and community members

Charge to the Ad Hoc:

 Review existing MMSD data, federal and local guidance, contracts and policies related to Educational Resource Officers

 Review current research on the use and effectiveness of Educational Resource Officers and/or School Resource Officers

 Review best practices related to Educational Resource Officers and/or School Resource Officers from other districts and locales

 Develop possible recommendations for amendments to contract language and board policy based on feedback from the community in regard to our discussions, information-sharing sessions and monthly meetings

 Exchange input and feedback with the working committee before their recommendations on policy and contract language are forwarded to the Board for consideration

 Report to the Board of Education a summary of the work of the Committee on the Educational Resource Officers in MMSD 

Student Behavior Ad Hoc Committee

The Student Behavior Ad Hoc Committee membership also includes 7 supporting staff members from the areas of Physical/Behavioral/Mental Health Student Services; Behavior Education; Progressive Discipline; Behavior Systems; and school-based staff--Positive Behavior coach; classroom teacher; and Dean of Students

Charge to the Ad Hoc:

  • Review existing MMSD behavior data, federal and local guidance, and policies on discipline from other districts and locales
  • Review primary objectives, including goals, metrics and ways of monitoring, for the next version of the Behavior Education Plan
  • Review implementation of best practices such as research on PBIS, Developmental Designs, restorative practices, intervention models and social-emotional learning, related to implementation of the Behavior Education Plan
  • Review feedback from stakeholder groups including but not limited to the MTI Joint Committee on Safety, Guiding Coalition for Restorative and Equitable School Discipline Practice, MMSD staff, students and families to inform both policy and practice
  • Finalize a revised policy for recommendation to the Board of Education
  • Identify a key set of key implications for implementation, including recommendations for resource allocation
